Denver lies within the semi-arid, continental climate zone with modest annual precipitation spread through the year with about 70 days of precipitation a year of all levels. Summers range from warm to hot with average temperatures ranging from the mid 80’s to mid 90’s. Winters are mostly mild, with periods of snow alternating with periods of warmth, the result from warming downslope chinook winds. Even though snow is common during the winter in Denver, most winter days are sunny, with temperatures anywhere from the low 40's to the low 50's and no snowfall. Snowfall is normally short lived, with many snowfalls melting quickly, due to the high altitude and dry sunny climate in the city. No monthly high temperatures in Denver average below freezing. Due to its inland location on the High Plains, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, weather patterns in Denver, like all cities along the eastern edge of the rocky mountains can be subject to rapid, volatile yet brief changes. Annual precipitation is 15.81.[38] The first snowfall of the season generally occurs around October 8 with very little accumulation, and the last snowfall is about April 15 usually with no accumulation, averaging 61 inches (155 cm) of seasonal accumulation. Denver’s climate is very sunny averaging 3,106 hours or 245 days of sunshine.[39] The climate of Denver is comparable to Flagstaff, Arizona, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Hard to beat! |
